1. How does Adopt-A-Spot work?

Adopt-A-Spot is a volunteer program to help keep your community (or chosen location) clean. Your group can adopt a location for a minimum of two (2) years, and work a minimum of four (4) times each year. A log sheet must be filled out at each clean up and sent to the Public Works Department for record.

2. Who can be part of Adopt-A-Spot?

Any group can participate in Adopt-A-Spot. We encourage church groups, youth groups, clubs, and even neighborhood groups to get together and adopt a location. Locations available are listed on the flyer, but if you need to inquire about a specific location, please call our office.

3. Who is responsible with Adopt-A-Spot?

For the participating group, there must be at least one (1) adult Sponsor. The Sponsor can also serve as the Chairperson. These individuals are responsible for making sure all of the requirements are fulfilled. (see requirements on agreement form)

4. If we adopt a location, what are we required to do?

When a location is adopted, the only requirement is litter clean up. Groups have the option to maintain landscaping, mow and maintain vegetation, and/or work on special projects. You can choose to do as much/or little as you believe your group can handle. You can do more as your group adjusts to the program, if you choose.

5. Is there an age minimum?

If participants in your group are 15 years of age or younger there must be adequate supervision by one or more adults. Parent supervision can count as volunteer hours if they assist.

6. How is our group recognized for our volunteer efforts?

The City of Texarkana, Texas makes and posts a sign on Right of Way recognizing the adoptee at each location. This sign remains in place as long as the agreement is in place.

7. Where do we get safety equipment and other items?

Each Adoptee will be responsible for providing their needed materials and safety equipment.

8. I have questions that are not answered on the Agreement, who do I need to talk to?

If your questions are not immediately answered on the Agreement, you can call the Public Works office at 903-798-3948. Amanda Freeland is over the program, however if unavailable, others in the office can try to answer your questions. If we are unable to answer a specific question, we will have Mrs. Freeland return your call.
